Biographie:
U2, l'un des plus grands groupes de rock du siècle voit le jour à Dublin en 1978. Il est formé de Paul Hewson dit Bono, Dave Evans dit The Edge, Adam Clayton et Larry Mullen. Les quatre irlandais se rencontrent par petites annonces pour tenter leur chance dans le rock. Ils se font la main avec Feedback, leur premier groupe et The Hype puis U2, comme les sous-marins et les avions de reconnaissance américains. Ils remportent un concours organisé par un journal local. Une promesse d'enregistrement en poche, ils sortent deux 45 tours en 80 avant de signer chez Island. Boy est le premier album d'une longue liste de succès internationaux, avec notamment War en 1983. Sunday Bloody Sunday (allusion à un dimanche de manifestations sanglantes en Irlande), New Year's Day, Pride sont des titres aujourd'hui imprimés dans la mémoire collective comme des standards. Les albums bouleversent les charts du monde dès leur sortie et les concerts tournent à guichets fermés. Le groupe culte des années 80 continue sa lancée vers les années 90's. Tranquillement installé au sommet, U2 évolue et cultive un melting-pot aux multiples styles. Retour en force de U2 en 2000, avec All That You Can't Leave Behind puis sort un nouveau best of. En 2004, U2 signe l'album How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb.
